You need to level the river downstream if you want to do this effectively. Alternatively, you can close the wall and control the flow via a mechanical pump or several water pumps + dump. Setting the floodgate to ( 0.0) will adjust the height of the floodgate to (0.0) tiles tall. The flood gate is only 3 metres high and building and removing blocks is very tedious. While not blocking as much water as completely closed does, partially closed/open allows some water to flow over the floodgate while still keeping a depth of (0.5) tiles deep of water blocked. ![]() Dams and levees are cost-efficient in this regard. Setting the floodgate to ( 0.5) will adjust the height of the floodgate to (0.5) tiles tall. There are three kinds with the triple floodgate being the tallest structure. Since a floodgate is, at maximum height, (1) tile tall it will block a depth of (1.0) tile deep of water. The floodgate will block the most water it can. Setting floodgate to ( 1.0) will adjust the height of the floodgate to (1) tile tall and will completely shut the floodgate. The option a player will choose to implement at any given time will depend purely upon the situation they find themselves in at that time. There is no single absolutely always correct answer. Which adjustment option to use, at a given time, will depend upon various factors, none of which are under the control of the player.
